On September 9, 2022, the Confucius Institute at Assumption University (CIAU) organized the Mid-Autumn Festival Celebration at Library 4th Fl., CL Building, Suvarnabhumi Campus, actively joined in by the AU administrators, faculty members, staff and students. The participants made mooncakes together with the guidance of CIAU staff.
The Mid-Autumn Festival is the most important festival in China, second only to the Spring Festival. The festival takes place on the 15th day of the eighth month on the Chinese traditional calendar, marking the middle of autumn, thus receiving such name. On the 15th day of the eighth month, the moon is much fuller and brighter than in other times of the year.
Mooncake is a Chinese bakery product traditionally eaten during the Mid-Autumn Festival, generally served with Chinese tea. In Chinese culture, roundness symbolizes completeness and togetherness. A full moon symbolizes prosperity and reunion for the whole family. Round mooncakes complement the harvest moon in the night sky at the Mid-Autumn Festival. At Mid-Autumn Festival people eat mooncakes together with family, or present mooncakes to relatives or friends, to express love and best wishes.
