The festival takes place on the 15th day of the eighth month on the Chinese traditional calendar, marking the middle of autumn, thus receiving such name. On the 15th day of the eighth month, the moon is much fuller and brighter than in other times of the year. People look into the sky at the moon for guidance, reuniting with one’s family. By means of the moon, people traveling from distant places send their thoughts and feeling to their relatives. Therefore, the Mid-Autumn Festival is also called the Festival of Reunion.
