“The Belt and Road” Biotechnology Seminar

On January 14th, 2020, hosted by Confucius Institute at Assumption University (hereafter CIAU) and co-hosted by School of Biotechnology of Assumption University and College of Biotechnology of Tianjin University of Science and Technology, “The Belt and Road” Biotechnology Seminar was held at t Assumption University Suvarnabhumi Campus. More than 80 teachers and students from over 10 countries including Thailand, China, the United Kingdom, India, Myanmar, Cambodia, Morocco, Timor- Leste and Burkina Faso attended this seminar.

 

Rev. Bro. Dr. Bancha Saenghiran, the president of Assumption University participated the opening ceremony and delivered a speech. He fully affirmed the important impact of this seminar to the innovation and development of biotechnology among the countries and regions along “The Belt and Road”, and encouraged teachers and students to exchange ideas and make innovations actively to expand the deep cooperation between China and Thailand in biotechnology field. Professor Li YU and Professor Teng Yuou from College of Biotechnology of Tianjin University of Science and Technology, Asst. Prof. Dr. Wunwisa Kasaekoopt, Asst. Prof. Dr. Tatsaporn Todhanakasem and Dr. Atittaya Tandhanskul from School of Biotechnology of Assumption University made keynote presentations.

 

The topic of their presentations covered a range of cutting-edge topic in biotechnology which include Study on probiotic fermented beverage based on Chinese traditional fermented cereal food, Encapsulation of probiotics and its food application, Karanda yogurt: characteristic and antioxidant activity, Zymomonas mobilis biofilm as a robust biocatalyst using lignocellulosic substrate, Study on secretion and expression of alkaline protease by Bacillus amyloliquefaciens and Screening and application of small molecule compounds based on antioxidant activity. Five professors had in-depth discussions and exchanges with teachers and students.

 

At the end of this seminar, Dr. Churdchai Cheowtirakul, the dean of School of Biotechnology of Assumption University made closing ceremony speech. He concluded and thanked the excellent presentations of five experts, and he also fully confirmed the important impact of this seminar to the innovation and development of biotechnology among the countries and regions along “The Belt and Road”.

 

The successful holding of “The Belt and Road” biotechnology seminar is inseparable from the strong support of Assumption University and Tianjin University of Science and Technology. CIAU will continue to respond to “The Belt and Road” initiative, give full play to the role of bridge between China and Thailand, and continue to contribute to the exchanges and cooperation in biotechnology and other fields in countries and regions along the “The Belt and Road”.
