From October 3 to 4, 2019, Confucius Institute at Assumption University (hereafter CIAU) held in-service training for volunteer Chinese teachers, 9 volunteer teachers from CIAU headquarters and its teaching sites attended this training. The content of this training mainly covers Chinese language teaching methods, classroom management, Sino-Thai intercultural communication, teaching skills display and sharing.
Based on sample teaching, nine volunteer teachers presented their actual teaching according to their teaching courses. Subsequently, Ms. Yang Hairong, the Chinese director of CIAU and Hanban sponsored Chinese teachers respectively commented on the aspects of Chinese language classroom management, classroom characteristics, curriculum design, teaching experience of primary Chinese language learners, teaching skills, and difficult points, and proposed improvements based on the shortcomings in the lectures. Volunteer Chinese Teachers said that in the future they will learn more through listening lectures, in order to accumulate teaching experience, and constantly improve their teaching level in practice.
On the next day, CIAU held discussion meeting among teachers. CIAU teachers discussed and shared the promotion of Chinese language and culture, the difficulties and solutions in Chinese teaching, the construction about the relationship of Sino-Thai teachers and students, and cross-cultural communication.
This training was supported and affirmed by Rev. Bro. Dr. Bancha Saenghiran, the President of Assumption University (hereafter AU). He personally introduced the characteristics of AU to the teachers and shared his life experience. He encouraged the teachers to continue their efforts and talents to make more contributions to the development of Sino-Thai friendship, led the CIAU teachers to visit the relevant departments of AU as well.
CIAU has always attached importance to the construction of the teaching staff. Not only is the teacher's in-service training held every semester, but also the Thai Chinese teachers training is held several times. This training not only helps promote the professional growth of volunteer Chinese teachers, but also opens up new ideas for Chinese teaching. It also helps volunteer Chinese teachers to better carry out Chinese teaching and adapt to life in Thailand.
