August 27, 2019, Confucius Institute at Assumption University (hereafter CIAU) held a keynote Speech Contest to celebrate the 70th Anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China and the 44th Anniversary of the Establishment of Diplomatic Relations Between the People’s Republic of China and the Kingdom of Thailand. This Speech Contest attracted 47 students from 13 schools of central Thailand. The theme of junior high school group is “Hello! China”, and the theme of senior high school group is “Modern China”.
During the competition, the contestants told their stories about their affinity with China and Chinese language. CHANIPA KHAONUAN from Guanghua School Rayong, who has been studying Chinese for 15 years, said: “Modern China develops so rapidly, both the level of technology and economic development are at the forefront of the world. I will study Chinese more hardly, then apply to Chinese universities and continue to study Chinese, in order to make my own contribution to the development of China-Thailand friendship in the future.” Although the speeches of the contestants are not the same, all of them expressed the same wishes in the end: “I hope to visit China one day!” After a fierce competition, PUNYAWI CHATAPAN from Assumption Samutprakarn School won the first prize of the junior high school group, and CHANIPA KHAONUAN from Guanghua School Rayong won the first prize of the senior high school group.
Through this speech contest, CIAU hopes to present a sincere blessing to the 70th Anniversary of the funding of the People’s Republic of China, and also expresses best wishes for the 44th Anniversary of the Establishment of Diplomatic Relations Between the Republic of China and the Kingdom of Thailand. At the same time, this contest opens a window for Thai students to understand China, and builds a bridge for Thai students to communicate with China. CIAU hopes all contestants can know China, understand China and like China through this contest.
